Giving a Bicycling Demonstrations

Bicycles were unknown in this part of China in 1891. In fact, modern-style bicycles with a front and rear wheel of equal size, had only been invented a few years before. In Europe and North America, the new bicycles had caught on and led to a bicycle fad – with thousands of people learning to ride. The Chinese that encountered the two strange Americans on bicycles were very curious about how they worked, and so the adventurers were often asked to give demonstrations on how to ride the bikes whenever they came to a new town.
